Joel Piroe let Daniel Farke down in Blackburn v Leeds United

Joel Piroe needs to perform more consistently if he is going to help Leeds United gain promotion this season.

The forward has been a regular in the side this year having played all games, starting 10 of them and scoring seven goals.

However, his performance in his side’s loss against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday [30 November] showed that there is plenty more Piroe can give to help his side this season and his display really let Daniel Farke down on the day.

How Piroe let Leeds United down v Blackburn

Despite losing the game 1-0, Leeds had 72% possession and will feel disappointed not to have done more in the game with 13 shots, five of which were on target [FotMob].

However, despite being his side’s top scorer, Piroe did not contribute to his side’s attacking efforts.

In the 69 minutes he played, the 25-year-old only managed three touches in the opposition box and one pass into the final third showing his lack of impact in his side’s performance.

Furthermore, he also lost four duels which suggests that the forward was really unable to get into the game against Blackburn.

While you could excuse this, given his side lost the game, what is alarming is how dominant Leeds were in terms of their possession and attacks but how little of that was created by or contributed to by Piroe.

Although it seems unfair to criticise a player who is the top goal-scorer in his side this season, the standards at Elland Road are high this season as the Whites seek promotion back to the Premier League and the 25-year-old has to do more consistently if he is really going to do his bit in their push this year.

And Farke should make a statement by axing him from the starting line-up against Derby next weekend.
