Gabriel Gudmundsson’s importance made clear after stunning reveal from Leeds vs Brentford

Gabriel Gudmundsson is thriving in the Premier League for Leeds United.

The Swedish left-back played all 90 minutes as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 82nd-minute header earned Leeds a 1-1 draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.

Gudmundsson has been a brilliant signing since arriving from Lille in the summer, and he’s taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Daniel Farke has relied on the 26-year-old throughout the season, and he has featured in every Premier League match for the Whites.

Despite Calvert-Lewin and Pascal Struijk gaining plaudits for their performances against Brentford, Gundmundsson was equally important in ending Leeds‘ four-match losing run away from home.

Leeds’ tactical switch has brought the best out of Gabriel Gudmundsson

Since Farke changed Leeds’ formation to a 3-5-2, Gudmundsson‘s best qualities are on display as a left wing-back.

The Swede has provided support to the attack throughout the Premier League campaign and has swung in 16 successful crosses and created 16 chances this season.

Gudmundsson has proved his threat in the final third, but against Brentford, he was defensively solid and frustrated the Bees throughout the game.

The 26-year-old faced a tricky test coming up against Brentford’s Dango Ouattara, but he won 58 per cent of his ground duels during the match.

According to FotMob, Gudmundsson won three fouls in the match, the most of any player, and completed 100 per cent of his dribbles (2/2).

Jayden Bogle should also get a mention for his strong performance

When Leeds lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest, Gudmundsson and Jayden Bogle were destroyed out wide by their pacy wingers.

But both players have recovered from their wobbles, with Bogle going under the radar.

When James Justin arrived at Leeds in the summer transfer window, fans were unsure how he would rotate with Bogle, given the new signing’s experience in the top flight.

He has embraced the challenge well, and despite facing a lot of criticism, he is beginning to reach new heights in his own career.

Both full-backs have found their feet in the Premier League, and in this new system that has worked wonders for Leeds, their performances have been instrumental.
