Gabriel Gudmundsson has become one of Leeds’ most influential players, this reveal shows why
Gabriel Gudmundsson has been a breath of fresh air for Leeds this season.
Gudmundsson has been a brilliant signing since arriving from Lille in the summer, and he’s adapted to Premier League football with relative ease.
In Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland, the 26-year-old dealt with Chris Rigg’s threat superbly and caused problems for Trai Hume in the final third.
Having featured in every league game this season, the Swede is highly trusted by Daniel Farke and has become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

Gabriel Gudmundsson has thrived at both ends of the pitch
Since Farke changed Leeds’ formation to a 3-5-2, Gudmundsson‘s best qualities are on display as a left wing-back.
Gudmundsson has proved his threat in the final third on multiple occasions, but against Sunderland, he was defensively solid and showcased the more tenacious aspects of his game.
On Sunday, the left-back won 57 per cent of ground duels and 100 per cent of his aerial duels.
| Stat | Gudmundsson |
| Appearances | 89 |
| Pass accuracy | 78.6% |
| Recoveries | 65 |
| Tackles | 40 |
| Touches | 1,021 |
Going forward, he has been equally impressive, creating 17 chances and registering 17 successful crosses.
As a defender, joining a newly-promoted side is never easy, as you know you’ll be facing up against top-class wingers week in, week out.
However, Gudmundsson has stood up to the challenge and has become a key component of this Leeds side, which is now unbeaten in five matches.
Not only has Gudmundsson become a fan favourite, but he has also received huge praise from his manager throughout the course of the campaign.
What Daniel Farke has said about Gabriel Gudmundsson this season
On 31 October, Farke was quick to praise Gudmundsson’s mentality after he was forced off with an injury against West Ham the week prior.
He said: “He’s been excellent so far, credit to his character, he always comes back stronger and delivers top performances.”
After his last-minute own goal against Fulham in September, Farke defended the Sweden international and backed him to respond well to any criticism.
He added: “He was so crucial for our game, a top performance. That he’s there with the spotlight is unlucky for him. He was the most disappointed guy in the dressing room. He doesn’t need any criticism.”
He’s become incredibly valuable at Elland Road, and Leeds’ form would certainly change if he were to pick up an injury at this crucial stage of the season.
