Ethan Ampadu quietly equals remarkable Leeds United record that’s stood for five decades

Leeds United have enjoyed a more-than-solid start to the Premier League season.

Leeds’ 3-1 victory against Wolves on Saturday was the team’s first Premier League win in three games, lifting them up to 12th in the table.

Daniel Farke will be delighted with the result at Molineux as he looks to take his side’s momentum into Saturday’s fixture against Bournemouth.

While Leeds’ new signings all delivered against Wolves, it was stalwart Ethan Ampadu who equalled a club record with the win.

Ethan Ampadu equals over 50-year Leeds record

Ampadu is once again going to be one of Leeds’ key players in their fight for Premier League survival.

The skipper missed the fixtures against Arsenal and Newcastle but has come back into the side and has been at his imperious best.

Ampadu played 90 minutes against Wolves, and with the win, equalled a long-standing Leeds record.

The Welshman has now won 50 of his 81 league/play-off appearances for Leeds – the joint quickest any Leeds United player has reached 50 wins, as per Opta’s Jonny Cooper via X.

The win at the weekend saw Ampadu equal Allan Clarke’s record of 50 wins in his first 81 league games.

Ampadu has a history of injury at Leeds, but when available, he is one of the club’s best players and is key to any success.

Leeds need Ethan Ampadu to stay fit for Premier League survival

Ampadu has been plagued by injuries for his entire career, missing a large chunk of last season for his side.

If the Whites are to survive in the Premier League this season, they will need their skipper available for the whole campaign.

Farke needs to be able to rely on his captain, who brings real stability to the backline, with his leadership.

Fans at Elland Road know that when Ampadu is playing, their side are more likely to get a positive result.
