Daniel Farke has Wilfried Gnonto problem at Leeds as new data emerges

Wilfried Gnonto should be back in Leeds United’s starting line-up in the near future.

Gnonto has featured sporadically for Daniel Farke‘s side this season, with just seven Premier League appearances.

He has started just four of those matches, with his last start coming in Leeds’ 3-2 loss to Manchester City on 29 November.

However, the data suggests that Farke needs to trust the 22-year-old, as he is among the best in the top-flight in a key metric.

Wilfried Gnonto in esteemed company in new stat reveal

Gnonto has been on the periphery, but he is clearly having the required impact for the Elland Road outfit when he is on the pitch.

The Italian ranks sixth in the Premier League for tackles per 90 among midfielders with over five appearances this season, with 3.84, per Sofascore.

Only Mats Wieffer, Florentino Luis, Manuel Ugarte, Joao Palhinha and Charalampos Kostoulas are above the Leeds star for the metric.

Can Gnonto turn it around at Leeds?

Gnonto’s progress has been halted by injury issues this season, after a promising start to the campaign.

A calf issue kept him out between September and November, when he could have kept his place in Farke’s line-up, after he started the opening three matches.

Now, he faces a battle to earn a regular spot, and he must keep working and showing the German that he is worthy when he is handed an opportunity.

The data suggests that he can be a vital asset for his manager, especially in terms of fighting for the ball from the front.

However, data alone cannot win his place in the team, he needs to produce when he gets a chance, and given the ability he has already shown in LS11, that is not an unlikely possibility.

Gnonto has notched 22 goals and 15 assists in 126 appearances for the Peacocks, and there is room for that to improve if he can force his way back in.

He may get the chance when the Yorkshire outfit face Brentford on 14 December, but he will have to wait and see whether Farke decides to make changes.
