Anton Stach tops Virgil van Dijk and Erling Haaland in unreal stat, it could be key to Leeds’ survival

Anton Stach leads the Premier League in aerial duels success rate so far this season.

Coming in during the summer transfer window, Stach has been fantastic for Leeds United to date.

Under Daniel Farke, he has become a key player and rarely misses a game for the West Yorkshire club.

Stach’s goal against Wolves is the obvious highlight so far, with the midfielder scoring a wonderful free-kick.

Now, the 26-year-old could be key to Leeds’ survival.

Anton Stach has a 85% aerial duel success rate

According to Opta on 11 November, Stach has won 85% of his aerial duels in the Premier League this season.

To date, he has attempted 20, winning 17 of these matchups.

This is above the likes of Virgil van Dijk, who is second with a 78.7 per cent success rate and Erling Haaland, who has a 72.2 per cent success rate.

However, this could now be used to Leeds’ benefit.

Multiple teams in the Premier League are terrible at defending set pieces this season.

While Leeds aren’t great at attacking them, they have scored four times from dead balls to date.

However, if they can start aiming for Stach off corners, surely this will result in further goals.

Given his heading success rate, he will likely win any duels if found, and help add another element to Leeds’ game amid their poor current attacking output.

How good are Leeds United at set pieces?

To date, Leeds have produced a 3.06 xG from set pieces.

While this isn’t high, ranking 12th highest in the Premier League, it is a respectable total.

In comparison, Leeds are incredibly poor at defending against them, conceding seven times, despite having just a 3.47 xG against.

Therefore, this is something Farke should definitely look to work on during the current international break.
