Leeds United fans want Jamie Shackleton to stay amid loan interest

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Leeds United Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Leeds Insider Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Elland Road.

Leeds United fans are desperate to see Jamie Shackleton stay at Elland Road amid reported interest from the Championship.

According to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay, Bournemouth are one of the teams interested in signing Shackleton, 21, on loan before the transfer window closes.

It is understood that the midfielder, who can also play at right-back, remains in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans going into next season.

He’s been heavily involved in pre-season fixtures and even played against Ajax in the 4-0 defeat on Wednesday night before his game was cut short by a “nasty” head injury in the second half [Phil Hay].

We hope that Shackleton is able to recover from that soon enough but either way, it’s unlikely to dampen the reported loan interest in him.

Our panel of Leeds United Super Fans have responded to the speculation linking Shackleton with a loan move away from Elland Road.

And it’s fair to say, they are all dead against the idea.

Here is what they had to say:

Marcelo Bielsa always seems to have been a massive fan of Shackleton.

The Leeds manager loves a player who’s versatile and he loves using the younger talent at Elland Road to pad out his first-team squad.

Shackleton is a reminder to anyone at Thorp Arch that they can be in the senior team while Bielsa is in charge.

However, could it be time to loan him out?

Shackleton could really do with getting a proper full season under his belt and if that means being loaned to a club in the Championship then so be it.

If he joins Bournemouth, he’ll be managed by a good manager in Scott Parker and could be in a fight for promotion.

We’ll see how this unfolds but if Bielsa and Victor Orta sign more players to add to the first-team, Shackleton should be one of the first young stars loaned out.
