Tyler Adams medical update amid permanent Leeds United exit to Bournemouth, announcement due

Tyler Adams’ medical is in progress at Bournemouth as he prepares to become the latest exit from Leeds United, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist reported via Twitter on Friday afternoon (18 August) that the tests were “being undergone” and that there was “hope” that the deal would be concluded “tonight or over the weekend”.

The USMNT captain, 24, is set to head to the south coast on a permanent deal after an agreement was reached between the clubs following a dispute over the midfielder’s release clause.

Adams had been set for a move to Chelsea before the Londoners backed out after triggering his £20million exit fee, but the Cherries felt they had then followed suit before the clause expired [Athletic, 17 August] and a new amount has now been settled on.

Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam reported on Friday that the fee will be £23m plus a further £1m in add-ons.

Adams will follow Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts in making a permanent Elland Road exit, along with a long list of loan departures made up of Jack Harrison, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen, Max Wober and Diego Llorente.

Gutting

On one hand it might be a relief for the saga over Adam’s future to finally come to an end but overall it is undoubtedly a blow to the Whites to lose him.

He had been linked to numerous sides over the summer but the fact that he was still recovering from hamstring surgery past the close of the window looked like it might protect the club at one point.

As with Harrison’s departure to Everton that has proven not to be the case, and after one near miss with Chelsea the news that fans were hoping to avoid now appears imminent.

Leeds United

Supporters will be sick of the phrase “relegation release clause” after this summer, and while they are now believed to have all lapsed, the squad has been picked apart as a result.

With the dispute between the clubs apparently settled by the prospect of up to £4m more on the fee it is still ultimately less than what Adams would surely go for on the open market, and the clause is at the root of the departure.

His exit leaves a major hole behind, with just new signing Ethan Ampadu, 17-year-old Archie Gray, and 19-year-old Darko Gyabi left as specialist central midfielders, and Daniel Farke will surely be hoping to add a new name before the deadline as a result.

In other Leeds United news, the club are now set for a bid on a new striker after watching him in action in recent days.
