Sky Sports pundit claims Leeds 'will struggle to keep hold of' one 'outstanding' player
Danny Mills has claimed that Leeds United will struggle to keep hold of centre-back Ben White once his loan deal at Elland Road expires next summer.
White, 22, has been in superb form since joining Leeds on a season-long deal from Brighton.
He has played a key role in what has been the Championship’s best defence so far this term with Leeds conceding just 10 goals in 20 matches.
White has played every minute and every league game for the Yorkshire giants and Sky Sports pundit Mills believes that there will be Premier League clubs queuing up to sign him next year.
“Ben White. I think he has been outstanding,” Mills told Football Insider when asked who has been Leeds’ best player this season.
“I didn’t know too much about him when he came into the club. But he’s come in and he’s an outstanding footballer.
“He can play and he can defend and I think that’s why, sadly for Leeds…they will struggle to keep hold of him.
“There are very big Premier League sides desperate to snap him up.”
White has shown clear signs that he is playing below his level in the Championship.
It is amazing to think that Brighton – a team who are 12th in the Premier League – were so willing to loan out the 22-year-old, who is clearly good enough for the top-flight.
According to stats by WhoScored, White has averaged 2.6 interceptions per league appearance for Leeds and no other player in the Championship has averaged more.
His fantastic reading of the game is not matched by any other defender in the second-tier and as unfortunate as it is, Mills might be right and Leeds fans might have to get used to the idea that the centre-back will move on in the summer.
Promotion is on the cards for Leeds this season but White is good enough to play for a team that is way up there in the Premier League.
