Reliable journalist: Leeds in talks with striker, may sign and loan him to Yorkshire rivals
Carlos Corberan has been installed as the new Huddersfield manager and it looks like the good relationship between him and Marcelo Bielsa is set to continue.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon has claimed that Leeds could loan Robbie Gotts to the Championship side and possibly even Joe Gelhardt if they sign the Wigan striker.
In the Sun on Sunday (July 26, p63), Nixon claimed that Gelhardt had travelled to Elland Road for talks over a potential move.
In a follow-up post on Twitter, Nixon claimed Leeds could also loan him out to Huddersfield.
Leeds fans don’t have a big soft spot for Huddersfield but that could all change with Corberan as manager.
He was hugely popular at Leeds United after guiding the Under-23s to the PDL National title last season and fans were very sad to see him go.
And he’s obviously worked very closely with Robbie Gotts, who the Leeds fans want to see more of.
Gotts started in the FA Cup match against Arsenal and performed pretty well, but he’s not been given much a chance under Bielsa.
Bielsa admitted that he felt guilty about the lack of opportunities he could afford Gotts in his first-team and that makes the idea of him going out on loan very feasible.
If he was to go out on loan then we can’t think of a better place than Huddersfield under Corberan.
The news that Gelhardt could be loaned out too shows that Bielsa doesn’t think the Wigan youngster is ready for the Premier League quite yet.
However, the in-demand youngster would be a very astute buy and loaning him to Huddersfield would ensure his development continues under a good manager.
