Patrick Bamford infuriates celebrity Leeds United fan after what he did vs former side

Patrick Bamford’s performance for Leeds United against former club Middlesbrough drew a scathing assessment from celebrity Whites fan Simon Rix.

The Kaiser Chiefs bassist reacted to the striker’s start in the 3-0 Carabao Cup loss in midweek on Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet on 19 August to brand him “so bad”.

After running through some unfavourable stats from the defeat he focused on Bamford’s failure to win duels in the air or on the ground, allowing Boro to attack at will.

Rix said (19m): “I just thought he was so bad on Wednesday and Middlesbrough, as the game progressed, they just didn’t need to give him any attention. They could bomb forward and score a goal because Bamford wasn’t going to do anything.”

Leeds United loss to Middlesbrough exposes Daniel Farke’s depth

Bamford is so often a lightning rod for criticism during hard times at Elland Road and currently that looks to be no different amid growing discontent around the club.

After coming so close to Premier League promotion last term the summer was supposed to be worked to get the Whites in position to get over the hump at the second attempt, but instead they have gone backwards.

Bamford certainly can be criticised for a dull offering against his former club in a performance which exposed the lack of squad depth as Daniel Farke rotated for the cup.

And the German will also come under unfavourable scrutiny for setting up his side in such a way that has seen them go from the play-off final to zero wins from three.

But when Georginio Rutter is set to become the third key star to leave against the club’s wishes thanks to the endlessly-unpopular release clauses questions have to be asked of the hierarchy.

Fans expected one or two high-profile exits this term thanks to the financial burden left by the Victor Orta operation under Andrea Radrizzani.

But now the Frenchman is heading to Brighton, albeit the deal is still yet to be sealed [TEAMtalk, 19 August], after Archie Gray left for Tottenham, Crysencio Summerville to West Ham, and Glen Kamara to Rennes.

Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle and potentially Joe Rothwell may be positive moves but the manager was already asking for three key signings before Rutter’s late exit [The Athletic, 5 August] and that wish list has been extended to four [The Athletic, 16 August].

And yet the 49ers are suddenly looking like they don’t have a plan as the necessary reinforcements haven’t arrived, particularly in attack where Bamford looks certain to stay past the deadline.

Jonathan Rowe appeared to be the start of the offensive revamp but while a major new bid has been lined up [TEAMtalk, 12 August] no deal has been secured.

Work may be happening behind the scenes but already the season is starting amidst the same sort of chaos as a year ago, and without completed deals soon they will be playing catch-up once more.

In other Leeds United news, the 49ers’ insurance plan has emerged as they know the pursuit of a key signing might now fail.
