Lewis O’Brien tests positive for COVID-19 amid heavy Leeds United links
Leeds United target Lewis O’Brien tested positive for COVID-19 and missed Huddersfield Town’s Championship opener against Derby County on Saturday.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon reported earlier this week that Marcelo Bielsa believes the English midfielder would be a good addition to the Leeds side.
Recently, even The Athletic’s reliable journalist Phil Hay stated that Bielsa personally scouted the 22-year-old as he looks to bring him to Elland Road in the summer.
The Leeds-linked midfielder missed the Saturday afternoon game because he tested positive for COVID-19, and was one of Town’s players to have been infected with the virus after a recent outbreak at the club, according to the Terriers’ official Twitter account.
Not good news
O’Brien’s positive test could see him out of action for two weeks and could also have ramifications on us possibly signing him this summer.
This all but rules out us signing him before our Premier League opener against Manchester United and if we reach an agreement, his medical and all the other formalities will likely be concluded closer to deadline day, which is not something any manager would like.

The best practice is to get the desired targets over the line as quickly as possible so that they have time to bed in with the squad and get used to their new manager’s system and style of play.
After this development, Victor Orta could now look for alternatives as there’s not much time left for the end of the window and we’re yet to sign a first-team midfielder.
As fans, we’re already fuming at the delays in getting deals over the line and we’re sure that Bielsa also wouldn’t be overly pleased with the pace of new signings this summer.
