Leeds United: Daniel Farke shares Willy Gnonto injury update after blow v Plymouth

Daniel Farke has reassured Leeds United fans that the injury blow suffered by Wilfried Gnonto against Plymouth on 6 February was not too bad and he should be fit to face Rotherham.

The boss saluted Gnonto’s “clinical” finish despite having picked up the knock before his goal, and he was substituted just four minutes after finding the back of the net in a precautionary measure.

Farke went on to clarify that the issue was only a small bruise on his foot, so the Italian forward should now be fit for Saturday’s clash against Rotherham at Elland Road.

Speaking to Leeds Live following the game, Farke shared: “It was a hit on his foot, even slightly before the goal, but, nevertheless, he was then there with a clinical and tidy finish. It’s not too bad, just a little bruise, should be all right for Saturday.”

Good news for Gnonto at Elland Road

Some more positive news has emerged, not only with Leeds progressing into the fifth round after what proved to be a tricky FA Cup tie but also that the concerns surrounding an injury blow in the process can now be put at ease.

Despite a reduced role under Farke, with his place often on the bench rather than in the starting time despite being one of the most recognisable and highly-rated players at the club, having made 22 league appearances this season, but just eight of those from the start.

However, he has proved that he can still step up when called upon with a well-taken goal against Plymouth, and it will be a relief to see him fit and available for the Yorkshire derby against Rotherham on Saturday.

The winger has been subject to plenty of transfer speculation since the summer window but remains at Elland Road and performs whenever it is required either from the start or from the bench, earning himself a new contract in the process.
