Leeds 23y/o to learn fate when season ends with exit on the cards – reliable journalist

Leeds United goalkeeper Kamil Miazek will learn his fate when the season ends, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.

Miazek, 23, was due to leave Elland Road at the end of June when his contract expired but he was handed a short-term relief when his deal was extended until the end of the season.

The Polish goalkeeper, who turns 24 next month, has not made a first-team appearance for the Whites but has been named on the bench in all four games since the Championship season resumed.

Miazek replaced January signing Elia Caprile as Marcelo Bielsa’s substitute ‘keeper even though, as per Cross, his future is still unclear.

“Good question which hasn’t been put to Bielsa yet,” Cross wrote on the LeedsLive website when asked about the two back-up goalkeepers in a Q&A.

“Miazek will find out his long-term fate once the season has finished, but you are right, he is covered until the end of the restart.

“It’s certainly a good sign he has leapfrogged Caprile for now. There has been nothing official on the Italian. He regularly shows he is watching the matches on Instagram.”

The case of Miazek and Caprile is a curious one.

Caprile’s emergence on the bench before lockdown suggested he was Bielsa’s third-choice goalkeeper behind Kiko Casilla and Illan Meslier.

The young Italian, who arrived from Chievo in January, was presumed to be one for the future but Miazek’s return to Bielsa’s plans adds doubt to what the plan is for the two ‘keepers.

Is Miazek in line for a new contract? If so, it is puzzling.

He’ll be 24 by the time next season starts with only four senior appearances to his name in his entire career – and they came in Poland.
