'Garbage', 'Woeful' – Some Leeds fans slaughter £32k/wk first-team player for U23s display today

Leeds United Under-23s were big favourites to win their Premier League 2 game against West Brom on Monday.

Mark Jackson named Rodrigo and Ian Poveda in his starting XI in a very strong side but it didn’t start well at Thorp Arch.

West Brom took the lead from Cheikh Diaby following a free-kick. The Baggies youngster drilled it under another first-team player who started for Leeds today, Kiko Casilla, and fans were not happy with their veteran keeper.

Casilla has lost his place in the first-team to Illan Meslier and he’s been on the bench six teams in eight Premier League games.

He was also made captain for the single EFL Cup game that Leeds lost on penalties to Hull.

However, some fans think he’s not trying for the Under-23s and should have done better with the goal.

Another fan said that he was “disappointed that Caprille game time is being affected by us playing Casilla for the 23s. That goal conceded was poor by him, he’s just going through the motions.”

Young keeper Elia Caprile was on the bench today as Casilla failed to impress.

Casilla is on a reported £32k-a-week at Leeds and it seems like a waste of big money to have him turn out for the Under-23s and block the progress of a talented youngster.

Here are the best reactions to his display for the Under-23s today…

We were even trolled by one West Brom fan this afternoon who echoed what the Leeds fans have been saying. Thanks for that, James.

Leeds did battle back to win the game 2-1, putting in a much-improved second-half performance.

The winning goal was an absolute peach from Helder Costa, a mazy individual run that will definitely have caught the eye of Marcelo Bielsa.
