Charlie Taylor tipped for Leeds United return from Burnley in January transfer window
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …
Paul Robinson believes a deal to bring Charlie Taylor back to Leeds United in the January transfer could work for both the Whites and Burnley.
Daniel Farke has already confirmed he is looking to make a left-back signing in the New Year after injuries to Junior Firpo and Sam Byram, and the club were believed to be keen to land the Clarets defender in the previous window too.
It may be seen as controversial in some quarters given Taylor, 30, was accused of refusing to play for the club in his last game before leaving in 2017 by then-manager Garry Monk [Sky Sports] but Robinson has focused on the answers that this squad have long needed at left-back and supports the move.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said: “Yeah I think it’s a deal which could work for both clubs because Charlie Taylor doesn’t get a regular look in under Vincent Kompany.
“He hasn’t been a mainstay in his side. Although he has played it didn’t look like he was going to at the start of the season.
“He’s somebody who knows the club very well. They do need an out-and-out left back. Djed Spence played there the other night against Sunderland, and Firpo, obviously, the manager doesn’t see him as the answer to the problem.
“He was susceptible for far too many goals last year, defensively not strong enough for what the manager wants by the look of it.
“It’s been an issue for Leeds not just this season but in the Premier League last season and it’s something that he’s going to look to address in January, which is a good thing.”

Taylor has had a run in the Burnley side of late after starting the season out of the squad altogether, and was in and out of the team under the former Manchester City captain last term despite being in the XI for blocks at a time.
So it would be easier said than done to convince the Turf Moor side to let him go, but if there is incoming movement on their end as they look to restock to stave off the threat of relegation there is always scope for deals to be done in January.
The manner of his departure might still bother some but given the passage of time and the general feeling towards Monk that has likely faded, since solving the long-held question at left-back is clearly more important.
In other Leeds United news, the club face a “brutal truth” in the upcoming transfer window according to a Sky Sports pundit.
