Wrexham deal on the cards – Three clubs Bamford could join amid Leeds exit reveal

Patrick Bamford looks set to leave Leeds United after seven years.

Speaking following the Whites’ pre-season friendly against Manchester United on Saturday (July 19), Daniel Farke confirmed he has told Bamford that he is not part of his plans.

Whilst Leeds fans will be sad to see Bamford leave Elland Road, the news is ultimately not surprising.

The 31-year-old has struggled extensively with injuries in recent years and made just 18 appearances for Leeds last season, failing to score.

With Bamford now set to explore his options, MOT Leeds News suggests three clubs the Englishman could sign for.

Wrexham AFC

Wrexham are preparing to continue their dramatic rise up the English football pyramid, following Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ takeover of the Welsh club.

Several big names have played for the Red Dragons in the past few years, and Bamford could well be the next.

Wrexham have already signed striker Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle this summer, but following the departures of Steven Fletcher, Sam Dalby and Paul Mullin, Phil Parkinson could still be on the hunt for further attacking reinforcements.

It should be noted, too, that the club from the north of Wales are among the Championship sides capable of paying the wages Bamford would likely demand.

Charlotte FC

The ex-England international to MLS path is one that has been trodden many times, and by some of the best.

And it could be the perfect place for Bamford to recover from his injuries and rediscover the form that gave him that solitary England cap in 2021.

Charlotte FC look to be the prime candidate for such a move, with the North Carolina-based team, who also happen to be managed by former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, in desperate need of a striker.

Middlesbrough

Bamford enjoyed two positive stints at Middlesbrough before his move to West Yorkshire in 2018. First, on loan from Chelsea for the 2014/15 season, his second being the year that convinced Leeds to sign him.

A return to the North East would make sense for the striker, and it could make sense for new head coach Rob Edwards as well.

22-year-old Tommy Conway is expected to lead the team next season, and the departure of Josh Coburn could allow space for a more experienced head to guide the young striker.
