‘Wow’, ‘Thank god’ – Many Leeds fans blown away by ‘cracking’ transfer update

Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at a report linking them to Lazio defender Luiz Felipe.

According to Italian outlet, La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Whites are preparing a bid of around £26.8 million for the centre-back, with Andrea Radrizzani’s right-hand man Lorenzo Tonetti holding talks with the Serie A club on Thursday.

And it’s safe to say that many supporters are over the moon with the update.

It’s not hard to see why either.

The 23-year-old Brazilian has been a key figure for Lazio in recent seasons, and made 26 league outings for the European giants last term alone.

The fee may be high, but it’s cheaper than the amount Brighton are asking for Ben White, and there is definitely an argument to be made for newly promoted sides prioritising quality over quantity in the transfer market.

And Felipe certainly has quality.

In fact, last season, his pass completion rate was 3.4% higher than White’s, while he also made 1.85 more interceptions per game and had a higher total action success rate, as per Wyscout.

Of course, we’re all desperate to see White back at Elland Road next season, but if that isn’t doable, then Leeds are going to need alternatives.

Luiz is a top quality player who is a good age and has experience of elite level European competition.

If this deal can be struck, it could prove to be a masterstroke from the Whites.
