Leeds United worrying trend continues despite Middlesbrough win
Leeds United moved to the summit of the Championship on Tuesday but one worrying trend continued throughout the night.
Goals from the Whites’ attacking midfield trio secured a 3-1 victory against Middlesbrough (10 December) and sent them back to the top of the Championship.
Willy Gnonto opened the scoring before Dan James and Brenden Aaronson made sure of the three points at Elland Road.
However, their lack of a goalscoring striker was on show once again with Mateo Joseph hooked before the 70th minute after failing to contribute, before Joel Piroe was able to muster nothing but an assist after his introduction.
Leeds United lack a top Championship striker
In a 3-1 home victory, you’d expect your strikers to have had a big impact on the game but Tuesday night (10 December) showcased anything but that.
In fact, according to FotMob, neither Joseph or Piroe were able to register a single shot in the game, although the latter was able to assist the second goal.
Piroe certainly offered more to the game in the sense of linking play but Joseph was a passenger for the 69 minutes he was on the pitch.
Of course, Leeds won the game, pretty comfortably. So is it really that much of a concern? Short-term, maybe not.
However, throughout the remainder of the season, the lack of responsibility on the shoulders of a centre forward could prove detrimental in close encounters and it is vital that they address the concern in January.

If they do, it becomes increasingly hard to see the season ending in anything other than promotion.
Dort Turgeman of Maccabi Tel Aviv has been linked with a move to the Whites (Sport5) and it is at least promising to see the league leaders actively trying to strengthen the one department in which they lack.
