‘Willy Gnonto may be next’ as Leeds United exit now nailed on after request

Willy Gnonto’s role at Leeds United is up for debate.

Daniel Farke deserves a lot of credit for what he has achieved with Leeds, but his treatment of Gnonto was strange last season.

The Italian was very rarely afforded a true chance to shine for the Whites, with Dan James ahead of him in the pecking order, though given the Welshman’s contributions, it’s hard to argue against that.

With James handed a new contract at Elland Road, it seems clear that Farke’s stance won’t have changed on that, leaving question marks over where Gnonto stands.

Leeds may cash in on Gnonto to address striker concerns

Mateo Joseph handed in a transfer request this week, meaning both he and Patrick Bamford will leave the club.

That will amplify the need for a new striker to arrive at Elland Road, with it claimed that funds may need to be raised to seal the signing of Rodrigo Muniz, who could cost upwards of £40million.

Gnonto, given the fact that he isn’t likely to be a starter, as well as the value he will have on his head, may be one that is sacrificed if those requirements prove true.

There is every chance that Gnonto could be the next one out the door, as Farke looks to improve his starting XI for the Premier League.

Leeds still yet to address biggest weaknesses

As of the current moment, Leeds will enter the Premier League campaign with Joel Piroe up top and Illan Meslier in goal.

That is despite the fact that those were the two areas highlighted as the main weaknesses, even before promotion was achieved.

Leeds simply have to accelerate plans to address those concerns, and time is slowly running out to do so.

Hopefully, that can be done without sacrificing someone like Gnonto.
