Willy Gnonto culpable as Leeds United behind only Wolves in Premier League physicality chart

Leeds United have been tame in many areas this season, with their often non-existent displays on the pitch ensuring the Whites are heavily involved in another relegation battle.

The West Yorkshire outfit only just managed to stay in the Premier League last time out, surviving by just three points.

It’s been another worrying story this time around, with the club currently in the relegation zone with just two matches remaining.

One major reason for this has been their inability to remain strong at the back, with Leeds conceding a league-high 71 goals, as per the official Premier League website.

But one area that they have not been so weak in is physicality, with the Whites behind only Wolves when it comes to picking up the most points for yellow and red cards.

As noted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, using data sourced by Transfermarkt, Leeds have accumulated 87 points when it comes to cards, with a yellow card counting as one point, a sending off because of two yellow cards counting as three, and a straight red counting as five.

It may come as a surprise to fans of the club, given how often their players have lost their battles on the pitch this season.

But one major surprise within that surprise is the fact that no Leeds player has picked up more yellow cards this season than young attacker Wilfried Gnonto.

The 19-year-old is level with Marc Roca and Weston McKennie when it comes to cautions, each picking up seven, according to the official Premier League website.

It certainly proves that he is more than willing to throw himself about on the pitch and get stuck into opponents, which is a rare trait at such a young age.

But it also proves that he still has some way to go when it comes to maturity, with the teenager receiving cautions for temperament issues such as talking back to the referee.

Tyler Adams, Junior Firpo and Luis Sinisterra have all seen red for the Whites this season, but Gnonto is among the leading men when it comes to yellows.

And it isn’t just for his club that he leads the way, with Gnonto behind only Joelinton (12), Ivan Toney (11) and Bobby Decordova-Reid (eight) in terms of forwards getting cautioned, as per the official Premier League website.
