Wilfried Gnonto may only play 10 more times for Leeds United as January transfer on the cards

Leeds United could be just 10 games away from saying goodbye to Wilfried Gnonto for good if reports are correct about a January transfer.

The Italy international was expected to leave the club in the summer before the 49ers put their foot down and blocked any move, forcing the player to apologise after he tried to force through a transfer.

But despite many expecting him to be very important to the squad this season after he stayed, Gnonto has lost his place in the team in recent weeks under Daniel Farke.

The boss has seemingly found the perfect balance in attack with a four-pronged attack featuring Daniel James on the right, Crysencio Summerville on the left and Joel Piroe playing just behind Georginio Rutter.

That has left very little place for Gnonto, who returned from an injury layoff to find himself cemented to the substitutes bench ever since.

With the current international break providing a reset for the team at Thorp Arch, there is a chance he could find his way back into the team after a period of no games and just training.

But the January transfer window is just ten games away, and there is already talk that the player is unhappy at Elland Road and plans to once again push for an exit with Everton interested again while Lazio and Roma also being mentioned.

Should they make a move at the start of the window there is every chance that with an acceptable bid the Whites are more open to an exit this time around because his standing in the squad has dropped.

Leeds won’t miss him as much as they would have done in the summer, and would bring in a decent fee to allow them to bolster the squad ahead of their promotion charge in the second half of the season.

Fans probably wouldn’t be too mad about it now, and that means Gnonto may have just ten games remaining in his Leeds career.
