Wilfried Gnonto future could remain at Leeds United after new transfer hints

Wilfried Gnonto has been the subject of much speculation, but his long-term future could remain at Leeds United after Daniel Farke hinted at a change in his mentality.

Farke recommended people ignore the noise surrounding Gnonto and focus on his mindset which was exemplified in the way he celebrated Leeds’ goal against Leicester despite being on the bench.

Gnonto had pushed for a move in the summer by refusing to train, but his attitude towards the club now seems to have changed, increasing the Whites’ chances of keeping him at the club.

In his press conference on 9 November, as shared by Leeds Live, Farke shared: “You can see it by the performance of the players and even if they’re not spending each and every minute on the pitch.

“When I see, for example, how much he was celebrating in the last home game after Cree was scoring goals, although he was just a substitute.

“It says a lot about his attitude at the moment and for that, it’s not a question. Let’s ignore all this noise, let’s just concentrate on what is important.”

Italian news outlet Tuttomercato shared on 4 November that Gnonto was ready to say his goodbyes at Elland Road as he is wanted by Lazio, and former Chelsea, manager Mauricio Sarri, who is keen to hand him a return to Serie A in the January transfer window.

His displays of jubilance from the bench aren’t the actions of a man who is ready to say his goodbyes, and while these actions can’t be taken as a guarantee that he will remain at Leeds, they can provide a view into his current mindset.

Gnonto has been the subject of plenty of speculation since the summer when he was linked to Everton, and the winger branded as “fantastic” by Gary Neville has no shortage of interest, but his long-term future could remain at Elland Road.

As Farke said, it’s important to ignore the noise and wait to see what happens, but Gnonto looks like he may be keen to remain at Leeds for some time to come despite his actions in the summer, which he has now learned from.
