View: Leeds United financial numbers could lead to crazy summer transfer window

Leeds United posted their financial figures for their first year back in the Premier League on Thursday, and it was brilliant news.

The Whites made an operating profit of £5million, something that is currently unheard of in this day and age.

It would have been even better if COVID-19 hadn’t kept the fans away and kept those matchday revenues low.

Kieran Maguire shared the news on his personal Twitter account, with the Whites finishing the year with £29million in the bank.

Add on top of this the investment from the 49ers Enterprises, and things are definitely staying in the green.

This profit was despite signing the likes of Rodrigo in a record-breaking deal, as well as Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Raphinha.

Add on top of that the academy signings and the limited player sales, and this year could be even better given we haven’t spent as much in that area.

Crazy.

This is all pointing to the summer now, there is no excuse.

Leeds are now in a position to go wild in the summer window, and they don’t have the financial horrors of someone such as Everton hanging over their heads.

Victor Orta could have an open chequebook to use in the upcoming summer, and Jesse Marsch will get the chance to build his side.

Both full-backs, a new midfielder and a couple of options in the final third are certainly needed at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa clearly didn’t have that open chequebook last summer, but now with another year of TV revenue and fans being back, that has changed.

This clearly all depends on staying in the Premier League, and with another year of huge revenue guaranteed with that, expect a crazy summer window.
