View: Leeds United delayed in Johnson transfer after Sky Sports update

Leeds United may have to temporarily postpone their pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson after the latest update from a Sky Sports commentator.

The Whites have reportedly been chasing Johnson towards the end of this January transfer window [The Atheltic] with the 20-year-old highly sought after by Premier League clubs.

Forest manager Steve Cooper however is certain that he will still have Johnson in his squad when the deadline strikes on 31 January.

Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver revealed a conversation he had with Cooper prior to the Reds’ Championship game against Cardiff City on Sunday (30 January, 04:30 pm)) where he confirmed the club’s stance on the matter.

“As of this morning when I spoke to him (Cooper), he was adamant that Brennan Johnson won’t be going anywhere before the window closes tomorrow,” Weaver said.

And while it may be a disappointment to know that the deal won’t be happening in the coming 24 hours or so, the door isn’t completely closed forever.

From what Cooper has said, according to Weaver anyway, the chance of a summer move for Johnson could well and truly be on for anyone who wishes to splash their cash.

It would be worth it too given former Forest and Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane labelled the 20-year-old as “really talented” after Forest knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup earlier this month [Nottingham Post].

Johnson would be a very Marcelo Bielsa signing as he fits the mould of being a very quick, energetic and hard-working winger, similar to Jack Harrison.

He may also come with a fraction of the price if Forest fail to gain promotion from the Championship this season with his future almost certainly in the top division.

In other Leeds United news, a late move for this Chelsea forward is on the cards.
