View: Ian Poveda must never return to Leeds United with move back to Blackburn set for next week

Ian Poveda has never lived up to the hype after arriving at Leeds United from Manchester City a couple of years ago.

The young winger never consistently performed in his first season and was shipped out to Blackburn in the Championship in this campaign.

Injury forced him to return to Thorp Arch, but with that coming to an end, he could return to Ewood Park for the final month of the season.

Tony Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph yesterday [14 April], that he has been in contact with Leeds this week.

The Rovers boss is hoping that Poveda can return within the next seven days after returning to the training pitch.

We have no complaints with him being shipped back out, with Jesse Marsch clearly on board with that too.

The new boss could have decided to keep him at Leeds to have a look at him, but as soon as he is ready, he has opened the door.

No return.

Leeds need to lock the door on Poveda and move him on for good in the summer, it simply hasn’t worked.

Raphinha, Dan James and Jack Harrison have locked down the first-team easily and Crysencio Summerville has jumped onto the bench this season.

The young Dutchman has surpassed Poveda easily, and he has to be given a new contract and more playing time in years to come.

There has been heavy speculation regarding the future of Summerville, but we cannot allow him to leave after getting him ready for the first-team.

Instead, Poveda can be shown the exit door.

Leeds must take this chance to lock the door at Thorp Arch on the winger forever, and give him that opportunity to continue his career elsewhere.
