Tony Cascarino left with egg on his face after what he said about Leeds United in November

Leeds United have produced a stunning run of form to give themselves every chance of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds thrashed high-flying Crystal Palace 4-1 last time out, following a win over Chelsea and draws against Liverpool and Brentford.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s red-hot scoring form – six goals in five matches – have proven pivotal to their survival chances.

The Whites opened a six-point buffer between them and West Ham after beating Palace at Elland Road, with their incredible run proving many wrong.

Tony Cascarino predicted Leeds to finish below Burnley

When Daniel Farke changed to a 3-5-2 formation during Leeds’ defeat to Manchester City last month, hardly anyone could have predicted them going unbeaten against Chelsea, Liverpool, Brentford and Crystal Palace.

Former Premier League winger Tony Cascarino was one of several who predicted Farke’s side to struggle in those matches, and even claimed that Burnley had a better chance of finishing above them.

“Leeds have got to be better because I think Burnley have got more chance of staying up than Leeds,” Cascarino said on talkSPORT’s Breakfast Show in November.

“Even though in the table, Leeds are 18th, Burnley are 19th, there’s only a point separating them. I think Leeds have got a really tough run of fixtures now.

“I’d be amazed if they got a result [against Man City]. I’d say they can, but I’d be amazed if they did.”

Since Cascarino made those comments, Leeds have opened an eight point gap between them and Burnley, with the West Yorkshire outfit threatening to prove them wrong.

Leeds can push towards mid-table

Leeds aren’t out of the woods in terms of avoiding relegation, but it’s refreshing to see that they’re looking up rather than over their shoulders.

The thrashing of Crystal Palace only emphasises their improvement, and if they can keep Calvert-Lewin fit, there’s every chance of a mid-table finish.

Calvert-Lewin has been tipped for an England call-up by many after outperforming strikers who cost hundreds of millions.

The 28-year-old has found the net more times than the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak – despite costing nothing – and the former Everton man holds the key to skyrocketing towards mid-table.
