Tim Sherwood predicts Leeds United’s Championship finish after Swansea draw

Leeds United’s hopes of earning a return to the Premier League were severely damaged by Swansea City on Saturday.

The Whites gave away a lead twice at Elland Road against Swansea as they went on to draw 2-2 after Zan Vipotnik scored a 96th-minute equaliser.

Illan Meslier made a couple of costly individual errors that led to goals and has left the Whites in a much weaker position within the Championship.

Leeds’ poor form as of late has led to Daniel Farke’s team dropping down to second in the league table, which has left doubts among some fans about whether or not they will be able to earn promotion.

Leeds can still earn automatic promotion

Leeds started the weekend top of the league, but they now find themselves in second place after Sheffield United overtook them.

On top of that, the Yorkshire giants are now level on points with Burnley as goal difference alone is keeping them in second place right now.

The three-horse race for Premier League status is certainly heating up, and Tim Sherwood revealed on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday who he thinks will come out on top of that.

He said, “I think Leeds will go up. They need to hold their nerve in the run-in. I really hope they do, not that I have anything against Burnley.

“I love Scott Parker. He is a friend of mine, but I just want Leeds to be in the Premier League. It’s just a better league when they are in it.”

Leeds will need to improve their form

Farke’s men have hit a rough patch at the worst conceivable time of the season, considering the importance of each result.

The Yorkshire giants have only managed one victory in their previous five Championship matches which has allowed Sheffield United and Burnley to take advantage and shrink Leeds’ former gap.

Leeds have seven fixtures remaining in the Championship, where consistency is going to be crucial if they don’t want to rely upon the playoffs.

The Whites were involved in that competition last season but suffered heartbreak at Wembley Stadium as they were beaten by Southampton in the playoff final.
