Three James Justin alternatives Leeds United should consider including Chelsea ace

Leeds United could be forced to consider alternative targets after a blow in their search for a right-back.

James Justin had looked set to join Leeds, with an agreement for the Leicester City defender moving towards a conclusion.

But on Saturday, Justin was forced off against Preston with an injury, throwing the Leeds move into doubt.

Leeds are still waiting to hear on the Justin injury, but, here, MOT Leeds News has outlined three targets Farke could go for instead.

Ben Johnson – Ipswich Town

Ben Johnson left West Ham last summer to join Ipswich Town, but could now be on the move again.

The Tractor Boys’ relegation has given the chance for several Premier League clubs to sniff around their players, and Leeds could get in on the act by looking at Johnson.

The right-back is strong and capable on the ball, also known to invert into midfield at times.

Johnson struggled for minutes at times last season, and could be available for a relatively cheap price.

Alfie Gilchrist – Chelsea

Alfie Gilchrist emerged from the Chelsea academy during the 2023/24 season, making 11 appearances in the Premier League for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and even grabbing a goal.

And last season, the defender was sent out on loan to Sheffield United, where he impressed before a big ankle injury.

Gilchrist has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, but Leeds could provide him with a chance to continue in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old is strong in defence and more than capable in attack.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – Lyon

Lyon signed Ainsley Maitland-Niles in 2023, after the defender had left his boyhood club, Arsenal, on a free transfer.

The England international’s time with the Gunners was mixed, with the 27-year-old often preferring to play in midfield, rather than in defence.

In the years that have passed, however, Maitland-Niles has matured and now happily plays at right-back for Lyon, and to a high standard.

The defender has three years remaining on his contract and would likely attract a fairly significant fee, but Leeds would not regret it.

Maitland-Niles brings huge experience and ability, and boasts an elite level of one-versus-one defending.
