When Leeds United can secure promotion ahead of crunch weekend games

Leeds United fans were hoping for Brentford to drop points on Wednesday night but Brentford don’t do dropping points at the moment.

It means that they have moved even closer to West Brom although the fate for both Leeds and the Baggies are still in their own hands.

There are some complicated permutations now and they could see Leeds promoted and even crowned champions before they travel to Derby on Sunday.

Here’s what can happen.

Leeds beat Barnsley

Leeds beat Barnsley and move five points clear of West Brom and six from Brentford. If West Brom or Brentford drop points against Huddersfield on Friday (WBA) or Stoke on Saturday (Bees) then Leeds are up. Regardless of their results, a draw against Derby would secure promotion.

Leeds draw with Barnsley

Leeds draw with Barnsley and move three points clear of West Brom and four from Brentford. If West Brom lose to Huddersfield then Leeds only need a point on Sunday. If West Brom draw, a win against Derby would see us up. If Brentford lose on Saturday then Leeds are up.

Leeds lose to Barnsley

Leeds lose to Barnsley and the table stays as it is, with Leeds needing four points from two games. If West Brom lose or draw on Friday then Leeds need a win against Derby to go up. If Brentford lose, Leeds need a point. If they draw, Leeds need to win to go up against Derby.

The bottom line is this – if West Brom and Brentford win their two remaining games, Leeds need four points from three games.
