Steinsson has perfect chance to sign Ryan Kent after what Bielsa once told Leeds United to do
Gretar Steinsson has the perfect chance to sign Ryan Kent for Leeds United after former boss Marcelo Bielsa urged the club to do so during his tenure.
The Whites reportedly pursued a move for the forward this summer, but since a move to Ipswich Town failed to materialise [Haber Ekspres], Fenerbache has cut ties with the forward and ended his four-deal in Istanbul after 16 months.
Bielsa was a big fan of the 27-year-old during his time in West Yorkshire and sanctioned a £15m move for Kent in 2021 when he was plying his trade north of the border at Rangers [Scottish Sun, 17 April 2021].
Now, three years following the failed move, Leeds can have another crack at convincing the player Kris Boyd once dubbed “phenomenal” [Sky Sports, 29 April 2021], his career can be revitalised at Elland Road.
Do Leeds United need to sign Ryan Kent?
Daniel Farke has proven in recent weeks he is not afraid of dipping into the free-agent market to bolster his side. However, not many would have expected an opportunity to sign a player of Kent’s quality to present itself.
The Whites were urged to sign the forward last summer as it became apparent he was surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho, patience prevailed in the end and, he could make his long-awaited arrival at Elland Road for free.
After MOT Leeds News learned of Cheikhou Kouyate’s failed medical at Thorp Arch, the priority for the time being is to bolster the midfield options with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev facing lengthy injury layoffs.
With Manor Solomon and Dan James returning to first-team training ahead of the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United on Friday [18 October], the attacking options are plentiful, with Wilfried Gnonto and Largie Ramazani also options on the flanks.

Comparisons between the Super Lig and Championship are pointless, however, Kent’s dismissal from Fenerbache must be considered with question marks regarding his ability to challenge the assigned pecking order at Elland Road.
The Whites have two options in central midfield and centre-back, if Farke continues to explore the free-agent market those are the positions that must be strengthened.
Kent signing on a free transfer is an idea that flatters to deceive, Leeds do not need another forward option and to pursue him while neglecting more glaringly obvious flaws in the side would be detrimental to the side’s progress this season.
