Silver lining emerges as Manchester City and Newcastle United want Leeds United sensation Finlay Gorman

Leeds United have produced a handful of top players over the years, with the academy staff working hard behind the scenes at Thorp Arch.

Many have gone on to play for the first-team, with others moving on for bigger and better challenges away from Elland Road.

And it could be the latter situation that current academy star Finlay Gorman finds himself in, with Premier League giants Manchester City and Newcastle United interested in his signature, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Given the pull of those two clubs, particularly when it comes to the finances involved, Leeds look certain to be helpless in preventing Gorman from joining either club.

But for that very same reason, the powers that be at Elland Road won’t be too disappointed if they do lose their latest academy prospect.

As per the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue, the Whites would receive a six-figure windfall for the player’s services.

Aged just 15, there is undoubtedly still a long way to go before the youngster breaks onto the first-team scene, be that at Leeds or indeed further afield.

But given his recent showings, the West Yorkshire club will be desperate to hold onto Gorman for as long as possible.

And if that isn’t the case, they will wish the teenager all the best in his next challenge and be grateful to the academy staff for helping the player in his development.

The interest from some of the top clubs in English football is not a surprise, with the attacking midfielder having also gained recognition on the international scene, making his England Under-16 debut earlier this season aged just 14.
