Sheffield United get huge takeover boost ahead of Leeds promotion battle

Leeds United face an even bigger fight for Championship promotion after Sheffield United finally confirmed they are under new ownership.

The Blades currently lead the Whites at the summit of the second tier by three points after both sides won on Saturday (23 December).

The takeover by COH Sports has been confirmed [Sheffield United, 23 December] which could give Chris Wilder’s side more spending power in the January transfer window after previous trouble.

Leeds United need to keep their cool

The Whites cannot let outside influences such as the news from the other side of Yorkshire concern them at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side needs to focus on their performances and results and ensure that they do what they need to gain promotion.

Wilder had declared that the Elland Road club were “miles ahead” of his side a few weeks ago but this was likely just an attempt at mind games to get an edge in the fight for promotion.

The promotion battle is too close to call at the moment with Burnley just one point behind Farke’s side after 21 matches.

The Whites face a kind festive schedule with fixtures against Stoke City, Derby County and Hull City among their next four opponents.

The New Year’s Day clash with Blackburn Rovers will be a harder test but one they need to pass if they want to be playing in the Premier League next season.

In other Leeds news, the PGMOL has apologised to the Whites following a controversial call in the draw with Preston.
