Sean Dyche sacking at Burnley shows desperation to copy Leeds United

Burnley have today (15 April) sacked their long-standing manager Sean Dyche over poor results as they hope to emulate what Leeds United did in February.

The Clarets are currently mired in the drop zone with just eight games to go, needing to bridge a four-point gap to Everton above them to get themselves above water.

The decision came from nowhere but if the new manager bounce that so often occurs in football takes effect, then Leeds may not be fully out of the relegation mess just yet.

The Whites pulled the trigger on their own failing manager much earlier in the campaign as Marcelo Bielsa was relieved of his duties at the end of February.

American coach Jesse Marsch came in to replace the Argentine and since then, Leeds have put together a very impressive run of results to put the bottom three firmly in the rear-view mirror.

They are nine points clear of the managerless Clarets but they only have six games left to play so if Burnley can win their two games in hand, then things will have gotten very tight once more all of a sudden.

Leeds United cannot rest on their laurels if they want to remain a Premier League side next season though and Marsch will have to get his players focused for the final run-in to the chequered flag on the season.

Of the teams still in relegation trouble, all of them have now sacked a manager but none have enjoyed the same success as Leeds have with Marsch at the helm.

Burnley’s desperate decision to get rid of Dyche after so long is a clear sign that they will try anything possible to find that magic touch that has gotten the Whites out of immediate danger.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch had some useful advice for Sam Greenwood before he came on to change the game against Watford last weekend.
