Sam Allardyce shares Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict that every Leeds fan will agree with
Sam Allardyce has backed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to do something for the first time in nearly four years.
Leeds United are on course to achieve safety in the Premier League, having secured all three points in their latest 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson were praised for their performances, though Calvert-Lewin’s impact didn’t go unnoticed, with the Englishman having scored his 10th league goal of the season.
And off the back of that achievement, Allardyce has mooted him to do something that he hasn’t been able to manage since 2022.
England call-up beckons for Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Aside from Harry Kane, who we all know by now is an absolute joke of a footballer, Calvert-Lewin is the highest-scoring Englishman within the top five leagues.
It is already his best goal return in a Premier League campaign since the 2020-21 season, when he managed to net 21 goals in 39 appearances for Everton, as well as having registered an assist.
It was during that season that the 28-year-old earned his first England call-up, and since then, he has made 11 England appearances in total, the most recent of which came back in 2022.
However, after the form he has showcased at Elland Road this season, Allardyce believes that Calvert-Lewin should be on the plane to the World Cup in the summer, and very few Leeds supporters will disagree with it.
Via talkSPORT, he said in response to whether he would pick him: “If he stays fit from now until the end of the season.

“Now he’s got his goal knack back, and I think that if he stays fit from now to the end of the season, there’s not a lot of options for England. So he’s got every chance of being in the squad.”
Calvert-Lewin isn’t the only Leeds star who has a shout for the England squad
Even if Calvert-Lewin’s form drops slightly between now and the end of the campaign, it would be a major howler from Thomas Tuchel not to call him up.
However, it would be just as big a mistake if the former Chelsea boss doesnt atleast took a look at how Bogle has fared this season.
Reece James aside, there have been very few better English right-backs than him this season, having showcased his quality at both ends of the pitch.
The 25-year-old would certainly be one of the more surprising picks if he were to get noticed, but it certainly wouldnt unwarrantd given the role he has played under Daniel Farke this season.
