Roy Keane comments show Troy Parrott ready for Leeds United challenge

AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott should be the first winter signing at Leeds United after his heroics for the Republic of Ireland.

The 23-year-old’s brace against Portugal and hat-trick at the Puskas Arena for the Green Army in the 3-2 win over Hungary in the November World Cup qualifiers kept his country’s hopes alive of a place in next summer’s tournament.

Parrott has been linked with a move to Elland Road, and the Whites now have every reason to pursue his transfer after what he’s done recently.

With Daniel Farke struggling to find a reliable goalscorer in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the centre-forward department is undoubtedly in desperate need of reinforcement.

Troy Parrott finally realising his talent amid Leeds United rumours

AZ may demand a record transfer fee for Parrott after his recent heroics with the Republic of Ireland, according to VoetbalNieuws.

It’s been reported that the Whites have already made contact with the Eredivisie outfit over the striker’s possible move to Elland Road.

Roy Keane has admitted that after all the talk about the Irish forward’s talent, he has made a mark after the wins over Portugal and Hungary.

Speaking on ITV after the Republic of Ireland’s win over Hungary, via the Irish Mirror, Keane said: “Parrott got a hat-trick. There was always talk about Parrott over the last few years, but he has stepped up in the last few days.”

It would definitely make sense for the West Yorkshire outfit to break the bank for Parrott’s signature in the winter transfer window.

The Peacocks have been one of the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season, and fighting relegation without a quality number nine will certainly be difficult.

Troy Parrott to sign after one sale at Elland Road

Joel Piroe may have to make way for Parrott in January, with the former Swansea forward already falling down the pecking order since last season.

The Dutch attacker now seems to be the third-choice number nine at Leeds, with Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha trusted by Farke.

Parrott’s record at AZ this season

With last season’s Championship top goalscorer’s sale possibly generating a decent sum in the winter transfer window, the Whites could potentially invest that into the AZ striker.

It would be a no-brainer for the West Yorkshire outfit to push for a deal with the Dutch outfit, but it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
