Premier League relegation still taking its toll as worrying Leeds United financial news drops

It has been quite some time since Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League, with the Whites now looking up rather than down.

Daniel Farke has completely transformed the situation at Elland Road, with the club currently going strong in the Championship.

The West Yorkshire currently occupy fourth place in the table following their 1-0 win against Norwich City on Wednesday (24 January).

Leicester City may be well ahead on 66 points, but Ipswich Town (59) and Southampton (57) can certainly be caught, although all three clubs do have a game in hand over Leeds.

Moreover, fifth-place West Brom, who also have a game in hand, have slipped to 12 points behind Farke’s men, providing the latter with a healthy bit of breathing space as the race for promotion roars on.

There has, however, been some slightly negative news regarding the Whites and their financial situation. As per BBC Sport, Leeds have dropped out of the top 20 highest revenue generating football clubs, with the figures based on analysis by Deloitte from the 2022/23 season.

Dropping out of the mega-rich list won’t worry Farke or fans too much in the grand scheme of things, but it would have been welcome news for the club to continue sharing a stage with European football giants such as Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich.

It was a really difficult campaign for the West Yorkshire outfit, who slowly but surely dropped into the second tier of English football due to their below-par performances.

Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce all failed to stop the rot, but Farke is certainly having the opposite impact in the Elland Road dugout this time around.

There is, of course, a long way to go, but given their recent run of form, Leeds should be confident of securing a play-off spot at the very least.
