Patrick Bamford set for more prominent Leeds United role after what was said about Joe Gelhardt

Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford has had a tough time of things this season as he’s been sidelined for most of the 2024/25 campaign with an injury.

The 31-year-old has helped lead the Whites’ attacking line for some time now and, although his injuries have hindered his ability to benefit the team as much as he would’ve wanted, there’s still a solid player in the striker.

Bamford has just returned from his most recent period on the sidelines and, while he’s appeared three times for the West Yorkshire outfit this term, each outing has been a less than 20-minute cameo.

However, after journalist Graeme Bailey (9 October) claimed that Joe Gelhardt could be “up for grabs” in the January transfer window, likely on loan, Bamford could find himself in a more prominent role as he’d have less competition for a spot.

Gelhardt himself hasn’t been relied upon much by Farke this term either but if Bamford had one less competitor, it would no doubt boost his chances of starting ahead of Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe.

Leeds United should play Patrick Bamford

Although Bamford’s form wasn’t the best last season with the striker bagging just nine goals in 36 games, there’s no denying that he’s still a stellar player for the Championship.

His injury history does, however, leave a lot to be desired but if Farke can manage to keep the Englishman fit, he could find the form he showed while playing under Marcelo Bielsa and become a key player for Leeds once again.

Joseph hasn’t had the best of campaigns thus far and, as Piroe seems to have prospered from coming off the bench rather than starting the game, a door could be opened for Bamford to slot into the starting XI.

The West Yorkshire outfit will no doubt want to avoid the stress of the playoffs at the end of the season and will be gunning for automatic promotion.

If Bamford can find his form, he could be the answer that Farke has been looking for to help boost his team into the top two.
