Patrick Bamford may start in Leeds United clash v Sheffield United after latest news at Elland Road

Patrick Bamford may have to step up for Leeds United after Mateo Joseph missed out for Spain under 21’s in their clash against Malta on Tuesday 15 October.

The Whites are preparing for a clash against an unbeaten Sheffield United side on Friday 18 October at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side will have to be on top form if they are to get anything out of the Blades, meaning they will need all their best players available.

With that being said, the German could be forced into relying on Bamford after the latest update on starting striker Joseph on international duty.

The Spaniard scored a hattrick in the first game of the break against Kazakhstan U21 but was absent from the second clash against Malta in Algeciras, Spain.

Joe Donnohue reported via X on 15 October that this doesn’t appear to be injury related but will wait for Farke’s press conference for clarification.

It could turn out that the 20-year-old is struggling with an injury concern then the Leeds manager will be forced into relying on Bamford.

The Englishman has had a tough time of things at Elland Road in recent months with injuries limiting him to just 41 minutes so far this campaign.

The 31-year-old is yet to score or assist so far this season so it could prove to be the perfect opportunity to open his account against a top side in Sheffield United.

The ex-Chelsea man has to prove himself for the Whites after struggling to dislodge Joseph who has been the go-to man so far this season.
