Patrick Bamford may now be set for key Leeds United role after Georginio Rutter development in last 24 hours
Patrick Bamford has looked like a guaranteed possibility to quit Leeds United for a long while but could now be set for a key role after an update on Georginio Rutter emerged this week.
Manager Daniel Farke confirmed on Wednesday afternoon (22 November) that Rutter is a “big doubt” for their Championship clash with Rotherham on Friday night (24 November).
Rutter played for the France Under-21s during the international break and looks to have picked up an injury with Farke sharing that the Frenchman hasn’t trained with the team ahead of the game.

The Frenchman has so far been the Championship’s creator-in-chief, registering five assists and more chances created than any other player in England’s second their, while also picking up three goals himself in his 15 matches so far.
His form hasn’t gone unnoticed either and was deservedly called up to the French under-21s squad (9 November) by Premier League legend Thierry Henry.
While his injury may well disrupt Farke’s attacking rhythm at Elland Road, the German issued on Wednesday (as per Phil Hay) that he will have no problems bringing exit-linked Bamford back into the team.

“When a player is not available it’s always a chance for others to shine. We’ll see if Rutter plays. I never speak about the starting line-up. I speak about my appreciation for Patrick and it’s good to have him back for several weeks in training. I would have no problems to have him in the side.”
With no return date set on Rutter, Bamford could now be set for a key role at Elland Road in what could be a dramatic turnaround in his career in West Yorkshire.
While his quality is undeniable, his injuries have clearly put a halt to his dominance of the Elland Road frontline, and a move away, Farke may feel could suit all parties involved.
The injuries and lack of fitness have put a huge dampener on Bamford’s abilities in front of goal and the characteristics needed to thrive in Daniel Farke’s high-intensity system, making him an expendable commodity.

But, such is the nature of football these days and the constant injuries, Farke is now certainly open for a u-turn on Bamford and the former Middlesbrough man will certainly be required, starting against Rotherham on Friday.
That could well be his chance to fully change Farke’s stance on his suitability and influence in his team but could well be a chance for Bamford to prolong his stay beyond the January transfer window.
