Patrick Bamford in unexpected media appearance amid Leeds United unrest

Patrick Bamford has found himself under more fire from Leeds United fans than ever in recent weeks after a series of poor performances.

The 30-year-old striker is yet to start a game for Daniel Farke but it doesn’t seem like he’s going to any time soon due to how well the team is performing without him in the starting line-up.

Bamford’s come off the bench in each of the last eight Championship games but none of them have been to great effect – except for his disastrous display in the 1-0 defeat at Stoke when he blazed a penalty over the crossbar at the Bet365 Stadium.

Bamford has an xG of 1.2 this season [FBRef] but he’s yet to hit the back of the net this term and Leeds fans seem to have completely had it with the one-time England international, who’s been a burden on the club’s wage bill for a number of years now.

Bamford entered his 30s in September and with him being so prone to injuries in recent years, it might have made sense for him to start thinking about what’s going to happen after he’s finished playing football.

He still has another two and a half years left on his contract at Elland Road so as long as he doesn’t suffer any more serious injuries, it could be a while before the striker hangs up his boots.

But the ex-Chelsea man has shown what he may be interested in doing by dipping his toes into the world of podcasting.

Weirdly, on Thursday (16 November), a video clip emerged on Twitter showing Bamford having a chat with comedian Joe Wilkinson.

It’s definitely an odd one because you do see Leeds players appearing on podcasts every now and then but they’re usually with local characters or well-known Leeds fans. Not a Bromley-born comedian who supports Gillingham.

Either way, the video clip is pretty funny with Bamford revealing that Marcelo Bielsa said that Kalvin Phillips was the only player at Leeds he’d allow his daughter to marry and the full podcast – called My Mate’s A Footballer – is on the BBC Sounds website to listen to.

It seems like this is the first in a series of podcasts from Wilkinson and Bamford with the Leeds fringe player now spending his time away from Thorp Arch entering the world of broadcasting.

And to think we all thought he’d join an orchestra as a violinist.

In other Leeds United news, 49ers have been slammed for a Leeds player “oversight”.
