Paraag Marathe’s U-turn put Leeds on collision course with relegation, he ignored clear logic

Paraag Marathe almost sacked Daniel Farke just days after Leeds won promotion to the Premier League earlier this year.

Leeds were mulling over whether to sack Farke or not after the Whites beat Stoke City 6-0 back in April to secure a top-flight return.

The news reached Leeds fans, and supporters were livid that Marathe was even considering the decision.

Leeds are now in danger of Premier League relegation following a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday, and things are going from bad to worse.

Now, Marathe and Co. are back to square one with Farke under serious pressure as Leeds boss once again.

Paraag Marathe crumbled with his decision over Daniel Farke

The 49ers will no doubt be weighing up their next steps with Farke, and may already have started to shortlist potential replacements for the German head coach.

Leeds truly look doomed with Farke at the helm, but he hasn’t been helped by the signings that Marathe has given him.

Farke led Norwich to Premier League relegation during the 2019-20 season, but managed to guide the Canaries back to the top flight the following year.

However, after showing signs of stubbornness that he is now showcasing at Leeds, Farke was sacked by Norwich in 2021, contributing to another relegation that season.

Marathe knew the dangers of keeping Farke beyond the latter’s initial job of getting the Whites promoted, and now Leeds are paying the price for it.

Only Marathe has put Leeds in this position, and it’s because he crumbled when the Whites needed him to be bold and brave.

Leeds fans are not to blame

Leeds fans had the right to question the 49ers’ intentions of sacking Farke, despite the head coach having just helped the Whites back to the big time.

It’s likely that during that time, Leeds supporters were emotional considering their return to the Premier League, with the potential sacking of Farke seeming harsh.

However, Marathe and Co. are there for a reason, and it’s to make their own decisions and calls for the benefit of the club.

With Leeds on track for relegation, Marathe understood how crucial the start of the season would be, making the delay in sacking Farke all the more embarrassing

Some of the best fixtures for points are now past the Whites, as Leeds face a grim upcoming batch of games.
