No need to worry, interest in Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips isn’t enough for a move

Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips could be heading for a move away from Elland Road with arch-rivals Manchester United keen on the Yorkshireman.

The Red Devils have had Phillips on their radar for some time and the Mirror recently reported that he was high on their shortlist of midfield options.

These reports have now been backed up by ESPN who have named Phillips as one of three names that the Old Trafford club may go in pursuit of in the summer.

The 26-year-old is joined on the said list by fellow England midfield partner Declan Rice of West Ham and RB Leipzig’s athletic workhorse Amadou Haidara.

As if the ‘War of the Roses’ derby matches weren’t already spicy enough as it is, this would add a whole new level to the dislike between the clubs’ respective fan bases.

There is no doubting that Manchester United have all the financial power to pay whatever fee the Whites ask for Phillips and they will also be able to afford the wages of the player too.

There is no need to worry though for Leeds fans as this deal may hit a snag if Phillips decides he doesn’t want to move to the club’s most famous rivals.

He rose through the club’s academy and has a great affinity with the supporters right now and he may not want to risk that for a move to Old Trafford.

It could all be just hypothetical interest if Rice, their supposed first choice, makes the move to Manchester but Marcelo Bielsa could do with tieing him down to an improved deal if possible.

His importance to the team has been evident during his time out injured and Bielsa cannot afford to lose him to a Premier League rival just yet.

In other Leeds United news, a new club is in pursuit of this starlet, according to Phil Hay.
