New update on Leeds signing Axel Disasi as Chelsea defender spotted at training ground

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi has been linked with a move to Elland Road this month.

Leeds have signed Facundo Buonanotte after his loan spell with Chelsea was cut short by Brighton, and the Whites are also understood to have been eyeing up a move for Disasi, too.

Football Insider reported on Leeds‘ interest in Disasi at the beginning of January, as the 27-year-old defender has been completely frozen out at Stamford Bridge.

However, no such move has materialised so far, with Daniel Farke said to be prioritising a centre-forward signing ahead of the 2 February deadline.

Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen is a Leeds target, but he could cost the Whites up to £40million this winter.

Axel Disasi could be handed Liam Rosenior lifeline

Chelsea are currently in the middle of a new era starting at Stamford Bridge, with Liam Rosenior having now taken charge of his first three matches following Enzo Maresca’s exit.

As with any change in the dugout, the chance for a fresh start is provided to many fringe players, as the new boss attempts to get a full picture of the squad he’s working with.

Disasi is yet to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea this season, and spent the second half of last term out on loan with Aston Villa, where he played 10 times in all competitions.

However, Rosenior’s arrival could present him with a new opportunity to rescue his Chelsea career, and he may well have taken the first steps to doing just that.

As revealed by Mirror Sports’ senior Chelsea correspondent Bobby Vincent on Tuesday, Disasi has been involved in an open training session being held by Chelsea.

It’s taking place ahead of their Champions League game at home to Pafos FC on Wednesday night, with the Cypriot champions expected to receive a heavily rotated Blues XI.

Given this update, that looks set to include Disasi, in what could be the beginning of him returning to the Chelsea first-team fold on a permanent basis under Rosenior.

Leeds won’t lose much sleep if they don’t sign Disasi

Coming up from the Championship to the Premier League, strengthening in defence is always crucial to survival.

And Leeds have certainly accomplished that with their summer business, as James Justin, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jaka Bijol all look like top additions.

Meanwhile, Sebastiaan Bornauw has also shown potential that he can step into a larger role if/when required too, with returning players in Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon also making the step up with relative ease.

Disasi would have the potential of being a shrewd and solid signing for Leeds, given he can operate at both centre-back and at right-back, and has pedigree with Chelsea, Monaco and Reims respectively.

However, there won’t be too many at Elland Road losing sleep if he doesn’t join either, as he may struggle to carve out a starting role.
