MOT View: YEP journalist shares promising JKA update as Leeds striker takes big stride
Jean-Kevin Augustin is finally back on the same fitness programme as the rest of the Leeds United squad, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.
Writing on the newspaper’s website, Smyth claims that Augustin, 22, had been working on his running mechanics at Thorp Arch last week as he recovered from a hamstring injury he picked up before the coronavirus-enforced suspension of the Championship season.
Now, it seems that Augustin has taken a big stride towards full recovery as he is set to train from home for the rest of this week and follow the same training routine as the rest of his team-mates.
Leeds have been keeping their players fit by sending them fitness programmes via WhatsApp each day but January signing Augustin had been taking a different approach in order to fix his hamstring and also get to the level of fitness that Marcelo Bielsa wanted him to be at.
Earlier this month, Augustin shared images and videos of himself in training and many commented on how much weight the French forward appeared to have lost.
Augustin is yet to start a match since joining Leeds in January and has only managed to make three appearances off the bench.
Hopefully, once football is back on, he will be ready to play straight away and can help Leeds see out their bid to win promotion to the Premier League.
Bielsa’s men have nine matches left to play and the chances are that those games will take place behind closed doors.
It means that Leeds fans might never witness Augustin start a match for them in the flesh unless the club pushes forward with a deal to sign him permanently from RB Leipzig in the summer.
If he does impress in the last nine games of the season and the Whites go up then you would imagine that it something they’ll do.
The dedication that Augustin has shown while football has been suspended is brilliant and is an indicator that the Frenchman is a player who will fit in well with Bielsa in charge.
In other Leeds United news, Patrick Bamford has shared what is probably going to happen with the rest of the club’s season.
