MOT View: Whites fans will love what Jose Mourinho has just said about Leeds
Jose Mourinho is always great value for money and after saying that he didn’t really know Marcelo Bielsa, despite coming up against him five times, the Tottenham boss was rather more complimentary about Leeds United.
With the two teams set to meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in today’s 12.30pm kick-off, Mourinho has said that he thinks Leeds will finish in a strong position in the Premier League.
Whatever happens today – and it’s the very definition of a free hit for Leeds after two big wins over Christmas – fans will love what one of the biggest names in the game said.
In an interview with the official Tottenham website Mourinho said, “Leeds are a team with nothing to lose. They were champions last season in the Championship, they come into the Premier League and there is no pressure on them.
“They play without any kind of pressure, they play to win football matches, they play to follow their style of play. I believe they are going to end in a very good position in the table, but for them, to finish sixth, seventh or eighth, as an example, there is no difference.
“They are a very difficult team to play against because of their style of play.”
That’s some commendation from Mourinho.
Spare a thought for the other promoted teams, with both West Brom and Fulham struggling in the bottom three.
Leeds smashed West Brom 5-0 after Christmas and proved that the two teams belong in different leagues.
2020 might have been challenging on a number of fronts, and not being at Elland Road to celebrate promotion or a return to the Premier League was tough to take.
But, take the fans out of the equation, and it’s been an incredible year for Leeds United – one of the very best.
If we can go to Tottenham and take the three points today, we’ll be on cloud nine.
One thing is certain, though, we will play without pressure and we will cause problems.
And fans should never underestimate what an achievement it is to come up to the Premier League and play as we are doing.
Mourinho knows.
