MOT View: West Brom should be charged by FA too after new Leeds update, one WBA player culpable
Leeds United have been charged by the Football Association for the behaviour of their players at Pride Park last month – but it would be massively unfair if the FA did not charge West Brom for the same thing.
As reported on the FA Spokesperson’s official Twitter account, it has been alleged that Leeds players used “pyrotechnic devices” after their win against Derby and the Yorkshire club has been charged for the failure to ensure players and staff act in an orderly fashion.
Leeds have since accepted the charge – according to BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope – because there is no denying that the players did use pyrotechnics on the pitch.
But if Leeds are going to be hit with that charge, why haven’t West Brom?
After they drew 2-2 with QPR to seal their automatic promotion to the Premier League, right-back Darnell Furlong was spotted taking a smoke bomb onto the pitch at The Hawthorns, as reported by The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.
One West Brom fan tweeted a picture of Furlong with the smoke bomb, joking that a ban is incoming for the player.
But, after Leeds were charged by the FA for the same offence, West Brom should also be charged – unless the conspiracy theories of an anti-Leeds agenda are true.
It would not shock us at all if West Brom get away with this.
This isn’t a dig at the Baggies or anything because we’re glad that they won promotion alongside us because we were the two best teams in the Championship last season.
This is more a matter of the FA showing that they are treating everyone fairly.
