MOT View: West Brom fears for C’Ship could give Leeds upper hand in promotion race
The race between Leeds United and West Brom for top-spot in the Championship was really starting to heat up before the enforced break.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men took the lead from the Baggies after weeks of domination from the Midlands side went to waste with a defeat at home to Wigan.
Leeds, on the other hand, were in scintillating form – winning their last five games all with clean sheets.
The Whites have mainly kept their head down during this lockdown, but West Brom have had their fears released on Monday.
Steve Madeley of the Athletic has revealed that the Baggies are fearful of seeing Fulham overtake them before the season potentially curtailing yet again.
It was suggested that they have held discussions over that possibility, with the potential of the table after 37 games being used if the season is curtailed again after the restart – something that is unlikely.
The fact that the Baggies are reportedly fearful rather than excited to get the chance to prove themselves on the field proves a sense of nervousness at the Hawthorns.
Whenever any Leeds player or member of staff have been asked about promotion, they have had the same answer – they want to finish it on the pitch to leave no doubts.
That sense of confidence is what will leave Leeds fans with no doubts that they have the edge, and this added fear from their nearest rivals will only add fuel to that fire.
