MOT View: Tweet from wife of Hernandez will have fans fretting about player future at Leeds
After Pablo Hernandez scored the goal that effectively secured promotion for Leeds United last season, we didn’t expect to be writing an article before Christmas pondering his future at the club.
But we’re getting increasingly fearful that something is going on behind the scenes, with Hernandez still not back in the Leeds squad.
Hernandez was dropped after the Leicester game for a petulant reaction after being subbed.
Kicking a water bottle was one thing. Ripping off a black armband ahead of Remembrance Sunday was a step too far and Marcelo Bielsa acted.
Hernandez apologised and we thought it would be water under the bridge.
However, Hernandez picked up an injury during the international break and hasn’t played since.
He was spotted in training last week ahead of the game against Chelsea, which got some Leeds fans talking.
And his wife stirred the pot the day after the Chelsea game when she put out a tweet saying “Superhealthy” and included a football emoji.
That was met by a lot of responses from Leeds fans who are starting to think there’s something else going on with Hernandez.
This one sums up the feeling from fans well.
We desperately hope that this is just a case of smoke without fire and we should get a much clearer picture on Wednesday in Bielsa’s press conference.
If Hernandez is ‘superhealthy’ then we expect him to be back in the squad to face West Ham.
If he’s not in the squad, then we might have to face an unwelcome truth – that Hernandez’ days at Leeds might be numbered.
There are rumours swirling that he’s been linked with a move to Huddersfield where he’d hook up with former Leeds coach Carlos Corberan.
We think his talents deserve to be shown off in the Premier League with Leeds.
