MOT View: Sheffield Utd potentially missing key man v Leeds after incident in Villa clash
Leeds United fans will have been watching closely as Sheffield United entertained Aston Villa on Monday evening.
After Saturday’s 4-3 victory against Fulham, the Whites will travel to South Yorkshire and Bramall Lane in their next Premier League outing.
Chris Wilder made a number of changes at Villa Park, with key players such as Billy Sharp and Oli McBurnie settling for a place on the bench.
Another key man in the Blades squad is John Egan.
The Irish international had an eventful start to the game, which saw his evening cut short in the midlands.
After only 15 minutes, a long ball over the top saw the defender grappling with Ollie Watkins – something the referee deemed to stop a goalscoring opportunity and was worthy of a red card.
It was a very soft decision, but VAR saw no problem with the officials’ decision and that saw the sending off stand and to add to that, a three-game ban.
This could be brilliant news for Patrick Bamford, who will potentially be coming up against a weakened Blades defence without their stand-in skipper.
Of course, Wilder will most likely appeal the decision, especially given the reaction of his players and staff after the red card.
Should that not be overturned, Ethan Ampadu will most likely step into the side after he was brought on in the first-half to sure things up at the back.
Egan was superb last season, making over six interceptions per game and winning two-thirds of his defensive duels according to WyScout.
It would be a massive benefit to the Whites should he miss out, and we will all await the outcome of the inevitable appeal.
